The Barbican and Serious recreate the atmosphere of Peter Cat, the Tokyo jazz club Haruki Murakami ran from 1974 to 1981, in a one-day programme of Japanese jazz, spoken-word elements, commissioned visuals and new stage design.

Three groups appear: Junko Onishi Trio, Sachi Hayasaka / TReS, and Yoshio Suzuki’s The Blend with Kosuke Mine, Keisuke Nakamura, Hakuei Kim and Tamaya Honda. The programme includes reinterpreted jazz classics and original compositions linked to Murakami’s literary world. Murakami will not appear in person, although the official pages say he gave the project his blessing.
