This six-week shodō course builds from individual kanji into a finished personal work. Across six Sunday sessions, participants move through Japanese writing systems, bring favourite words or short poems into the studio, and choose long or decorated papers for a final piece signed or stamped at the close.
The six sessions
The course begins with one- and two-character kanji words on 25 October, then longer kanji work on 1 November. On 8 November, the focus shifts to hiragana and katakana. The final three sessions cover favourite words and Japanese calligraphy, short sentences or haiku, then a finished work on 6 December. Hammond House also advertises a 13 December bonus day for participants who miss a class.
