A curator-led evening at The Photographers’ Gallery looks across seven decades of Japanese photography through 27 women artists, from post-war pioneers to experimental contemporary voices. The tour is led by the exhibition’s curator, Dr Taous Dahmani, and continues with time for questions and independent viewing until the gallery closes.
What the tour explores
Japanese Women Photographers: From 1950s to Now brings together more than 200 photographs, videos, installations and rare photobooks. The exhibition considers identity, pop culture, fashion, everyday life and social change, including work by Rinko Kawauchi, Miwa Yanagi and Mikiko Hara.
Dahmani is Curator at The Photographers’ Gallery and an art historian specialising in photography. The event begins with her tour, followed by time to explore the galleries at your own pace.
Booking and arrival
The tour runs on Tuesday 1 September, 18:00–20:00. Meet at the entrance between 18:00 and 18:15. It is free, but booking is essential, with priority booking for Japan Society members. Enter each attendee’s full name and email address in the booking form; members should use the email associated with their membership.
